Abstract

Seat bottoms and backs ; covers for exposed seats and occupants; frames. -A seat consists of a flexible lath surface 1 which rests upon supports 2 and can be wound upon a shaft 7 when out of use. The handle 9 by which the shaft 7 is rotated can be turned round in its bearing in the shaft 7 so that it abuts against the strap 8 and prevents the shaft 7 from being turned. The supports 2 are detachably connected to the floor or deck and wall. Fig. 3 shows the seat fixed to the side rails 12 of a ship. The supports 2 are connected by bearings 15 with bars 13 fixed to the rails 12. The shaft 7, upon which the seat 1 can be wound, is carried in the bearings 15 and held in place by bars 16 pivoted to the bearings 15. A garden seat may be constructed in a similar manner, the bearings for the shaft 7 being carried by the seat frame. Fig. 6 is a front view of a seat for a motor-omnibus, in which the seat is wound up on a spring roller in a drum 25 when out of use. When drawn out, the seat is held in position by the top and bottom laths 27 engaging under projections 26, 28 on the seat frame. A mackintosh on a spring roller may be provided at the back of the seat.
