17,457. Meadowcroft, J., Meadowcroft, W., and Meadowcroft & Son, W. July 30. B o t t l e s, washing.- Comprises apparatus for injecting and ejecting air and liquid into and from siphon bottles. A number of siphons are supported in an approximately upright position above a table E which may rotate over a fixed cam-plate or be fixed above a rotary cam-plate. Each siphon is supported by the spout a engaging a rinsing-head B, and is positioned by a forked member a<1> and by a spring cap a<2>. In the charging position, the member g<3> is raised by a cam G<1> and thus raises the spring- mounted members G, a through the medium of a lever g<2>. This movement raises the cap a<2> from the siphon head and also raises the lever g which, when depressed, opens the siphon valve. The weight of the siphon depresses the spring - mounted rinsing-head B so that depending members c<5> of inlet and discharge valves C, D are positioned respectively for operation from cams C', D' by mechanism similar to that acting in conjunction with the cam G'. During the rotation of the machine, the siphon is gripped by the cap a<2> and the valve opened by the lever g, then a supply of aerated or carbonated liquid is introduced through the valve C and subsequently expelled through the valve D, and finally the siphon is released by the cam G<1> and removed by hand from the machine. The discharged air and water is delivered through pipes d<1>, d<2> to an annular gallery in communication with a waste-pipe d. In a modified form of machine, several pairs of cams C<1>, D<1> are provided, so that the siphons are charged and emptied several times during a revolution. In another modification, the inlet and discharge valves and the gripping-mechanisms are mounted on a fixed frame and are operated by cams on a single rotating shaft. Both types of machine may be fitted with an additional valve operated similarly to the other valves and arranged to supply air to expel the liquid from the siphons.
