Abstract

16,774. Green, E. L., Robson, T., and Phillips, M. E., [trading as Robson & Cooper]. July 22. Riding-saddles; girths. -In order to distribute the weight of the rider nearer the horse's shoulders, saddles for racing, hunting, steeplechasing, &c. are made to fit over and beyond the animal's withers. The head a of the saddle fits just in front of the withers, which project through an open space c in the saddle extending to the cantle b. Below the seat d and above the saddle tree is a space for the passage of the surcingle e. A girth above the surcingle is secured to the saddle by connexions g. According to the Provisional Specification, weights may be placed in pockets attached to the tree for apportioning the dead weight to the best advantage.
