Abstract
16.257. Rigaux, J. C. July 15. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Thermometers.-A fire-damp indicator for a miner's electric lamp is provided with a collapsible device 21 arranged above a flexible diaphragm 20, these parts being. covered with platinum sponge. In the form shown, a case 1 for an accumulator has an ebonite cover 5 carrying two contacts 6, 7 on its underside and a clamp 8 which engages a conducting-sleeve 9 provided with a spring-pressed contact 10 for holding one end of a lamp 15. The sleeve 9 is insulated from a reflector 14 closing the lower end of a glass cylinder 27 and the other end of the lamp is held by a socket 10<a> insulated from an upper reflector 17. The socket 10<a> carries a contact 18 upon which normally rests a contact stud 19 connected by means of the device 21, of copper &c., to a diaphragm 20, of similar material, which closes the reflector 17 hermetically. The reflector 17 is filled with an expansible fluid, and encloses the stud 19 and a shunt resistance 25. The case 1 is provided with cage bars 28 which support a ring 29 into which screws a top having a number of gauze-covered openings 32 for admission of fire-damp. A switch 35 projects through the case. When the sponge becomes heated, the fluid expands, the stud 19 is lifted and the current passes through the resistance 25 so that the light is dimmed. According to the Provisional Specification, the case may be provided with a magnetic lock.
