Abstract

16,176. Haslam, W. D. July 14. [Cognate Application, 16,888/13.] Hearing-appliances. - A hearing-appliance, Figs. 1 and 3, comprises a shell-shaped casing 1 of metal, vulcanite, or celluloid adapted to fit over and enclose the auricle so as to form a resonance chamber. The front wall 3 extends forward to a point over the meatus, while the back wall 2 forms a collar fitting round the auricle and in contact with the mastoid bone. The wall 2 is formed with an extension 4 merging into a short tube 5 which enters the auditory canal. In a modification, Fig. 4, the front wall is extended forward to a point 7 in front of the tragus and the tube 5 may be dispensed with.
