Abstract
15,059. Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. June 28, 1912, [Convention date]. Operating-mechanism applicable generally.- An electro-magnetic device for turning a shaft in alternate directions, as, for example, in the operation of points or switches for electric tramways, comprises an electro-magnet or solenoid A having its core C pivoted to a cross-shaped pushbar B, the top of which is adapted to strike one or the other of two pins D, D1 mounted on a disk F on the shaft E. The disk F has a recess G, H coacting with a fixed stop-pin J, and the pins D, D1 are linked to pins L, L1 on the bar B by slotted bars K, K1. When the coil is excited the bar B forces the pin D upwards and turns the disk F into the position shown in Fig. 2, a projection M on the bar B sliding-along the edge of the rod K. If the current is interrupted, the core falls, either by gravity or by a spring, and the bar B turns round the pivot 0 until the projection M rests against the rod K1. When the excitation of the electro-magnet is renewed, the shaft E is turned in the opposite direction by the action of the bar B upon the pin D1. In a modification suitable for operating a point-switch for electric tramways, two disks each having crankpins are mounted on the shaft E. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), (1) the coupling-rods K, K1 may each be provided with one long slot in place of two, (2) the shaft may be retained in either position by a spring. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
