Abstract

Braiding - machines. - The bobbin carriers of braiding-machines are driven in sinuous paths by electro magnetic means, all toothed gears, cams, &c. being dispensed with. The bobbins can be controlled and arrested as desired by jacquard mechanism. Mounted at intervals on the baseplate a are pillars b around which are laid two series of sinuous laminated iron plates d forming a bobbin track of the usual shape. The upper portions of the plates d are cut away at intervals to form a series of cores f, preferably rectangular with the horizontal cores pointing in the same direction, on which coils i are mounted. The coils are held in position by a track plate k of thin insulating material on which run bobbin carriers m mounted on antifriction balls o. Each bobbin carrier is provided with a core n preferably rectangular. Fig. 4 shows diagrammatically a portion of the connexions. A rotary crank s makes contact in turn with contact pieces r which are connected as shown to poles f in each race circle. The poles marked 2, 3, 4 are connected across the race circles by switches t, u normally closed. When the crank connects the contacts 1, 2 as shown, the corresponding poles 1, 2 are excited and an adjacent bobbin on the track plate is caused to travel from one to the other. By opening the switches t, u on plates I, III under jacquard action, bobbins are caused to revolve on the plate II. By closing a switch v normally open, and opening switches u on the plates I, II, a bobbin lying over the pole 1 between the plates I, II will be arrested at this spot.
