Nitrogen.-In the production of nitrides, cyanides, cyanamides and the like where a gas reacts on solid material at a high temperature the heating is effected by surface combustion, the products of combustion being kept separate from the reaction space. Nitrogen may be recovered from the products of combustion as described in Specification 25,629/12, but it is preferred to effect this by freezing out or liquefying the carbon dioxide.
