Abstract
9242. Tuttle, G. H., Fleming, F. B., and Matre, W. van. April 19. Razors and shavers.- The blade is arranged to be reciprocated transversely of the safety guard. In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 6, the blade 2 has a pair of holes, which are engaged by the rightangled ends of a rocking a r m 8 journaled in lugs 9 on the guard and having a lug 10 engaged by the end of a shaft 11, which is reciprocated in the razor handle by the power-driven rotary shaft B through the medium of bevel-faced cams 14, 20. A spring 12 on the handle keeps the cams 14, 20 in engagement. The blade is held on the guard 1 by a cover-plate 3 having lugs 18, which snap into notches 19' in the guard. In a modification, Fig. 10, the rocking arm 17' is journaled in brackets 18<1> secured between the head 7' and a plate 11', and has a projection 19<1> engaging an opening 20<1> in the reciprocating shaft 2<1>, and the right-angled ends pass through slots in the plate 11<1>. The plate 11<1> has teeth which co-operate with the guard and ribs 14', between which, and ribs 28 on the cover-plate 27, the blade 22 reciprocates, the central rib 14<1> having a lug engaging a slot in the blade and a recess in the central rib 28. The plate 27 is secured by side hooks which enter notches in the side flanges 8<1> of the head, and a spring catch which engages a notch in the rear flange of the head. The rotating shaft in the razor handle is driven from a flexible shaft.
