Abstract

Reciprocating sieves. - Granular substances, such as artificial precious stones, are separated by treating in a series of connected sieve boxes b of graduated mesh. Each sieve box is provided with an inclined sieve wall a, in addition to the horizontal sieve wall d, the entire series of sieve boxes being arranged to be rotated through 180 degrees for the purpose of conveying the material from one sieve to another, by means of the inclines a, through apertures c in the side walls e. Oscillation of the sieve is produced at intervals by means of a cam g mounted on the driving-shaft, from which the shaking movement of the sieves and also the operation of the feed mechanism are simultaneously derived. The cam acts through levers i, l to raise the bars n arranged at each end of the axis of the sieve boxes. The sieves are thus lifted, and by means of links p respectively engaging pins o, q on the sieves and frame, the sieves are oscillated through 180 degrees, as indicated by the arrows. The journal pins of the series of sieves move on the cross-pieces m during the shaking movements.
