Abstract

8546. Jackson, J. G., and Jackson, Ltd., J. G. April 11. Rollers.-Abrasive-composition rollers for use in reducing substances by crushing, grinding, rolling, &c. and comprising a shaft, core, and abrasive-composition surface covering, have the cementitious core cast or moulded about the shaft upon which the roller is formed. The core may first be formed on the shaft and the abrasive composition subsequently applied, or a cylinder of abrasive material may be placed in position about the shaft and the core subsequently formed by filling in the space between the shaft and the cylinder with cement. The core preferably has the same or approximately the same coefficient of expansion as the abrasive composition of the surface covering. The connexion between the shaft and the cementitious core may be entirely or mainly by surface adhesion, or the part of the shaft to which the core is applied may be of increased diameter with a cylindrical or other surface and presenting one or more plane surfaces, or surfaces with recesses or projections to .increase the security of the connexion. Fig. 1 shows a shaft A with means for increasing the security of the connexion between the shaft and the composition, consisting of end disks B provided with flanges B<2> projecting from their inner faces and intermediate disks B<1> with flanges B<2> projecting from both sides of their rims. The disks may be perforated or apertured, and radial arms may be used instead of disks. Fig. 2 shows examples of projecting bars C, C<1>, wires D, D', D<2>, and network E; and Fig. 3 shows arrangements of wires or bands F, which may be associated with a belt of wire network G arranged concentrically to the shaft. Fig. 6 shows wires H, H<1>, H<2>, H<3>, H<4>, which may be embedded in the core or fastened to supporting- parts thereof and project from the core and be enveloped by the abrasive composition.
