8369. Hill, J. A. April 9. Tar macadam, plant for making.-Relates to apparatus for making tarred macadam, of the kind comprising two drying- chambers for stone communicating with one another, a conveyer which receives the dried material, mixes it with tar, and ejects it from the apparatus, and a tar tank heated by the furnace gases of the drying- chamber and arranged with its outlet above the mixer. The invention consists in the particular form of apparatus shown and described. The stone is first heated in a chamber a, the floor of which is provided with a number of doors f which may be opened by suitable link-work g to dump the materials into a second drying-chamber b. The chambers are heated by a furnace c, having a grate d of the type described in Specification 1399/00, [Class 51, Furnaces &c.], and lined with refractory material e. The materials gravitate to a combined mixer and conveyer h through which they are moved by a rotary screw, tar or like material being sprayed on them at a regulatable rate from a pipe k fed from a tank i, which is heated by the furnace gases as these pass through the jacket m on their way to the chimney n. The tarred composition is automatically delivered at p.
