Alloys; dry processes of refining metals.-A process for the purification of metals and the production of purified metal alloys other than of aluminium comprises the addition to the metal mass of a compound of fluorine in which one or more elements have an atomic weight in excess of 41 and which decomposes at the temperature of the metal bath. For example, if nickel fluoride is added to nickel the fluorine combines with the impurities and pure nickel is obtained. If nickel fluoride is added to steel, purified nickel-steel is obtained.
