Abstract

6855. Spiers, W. March 20. Circular machines. - Relates to seamless hosiery machines of the superposed-cylinder type such as is described in Specification 15,008/00 and having rotary cam boxes. The dividing-cam 1 for effecting the disconnexion of the needles and the jacks or sliders is so arranged that it can be moved away from the side of the needle cylinder and is clear of the needle latches during the knitting of heel and toe fabric. The dividing cam-plate 1 is mounted on pivoted arms 3 so as to swing outwards and is operated by a lever 12, a twisted portion 14 of which passes through an inclined slot in the plate. The lever 12 is moved by a link 16, the hollow square end 17 of which embraces a cam bar 18 rosatable by a star-wheel 19. The wheel 19 is operated by a spring plunger 22 through intermediate connexions 24, 25, 26, 27 from a drum 29. In another form, the dividing-cam 1 is operated directly from a controlling-member 7 which is similar to the controlling-member described in Specification 8631/08. The cam 1 may be operated through levers 35, 36 as shown, or a forked lever may be employed to operate the cam 1 and the bottom transfer cam simultaneously.
