Abstract

5783. Br³nn, P. de. Sept. 27, 1912, [Convention date]. Zeolites, artificial; sodium aluminate.-Artificial zeolites for water-softening are obtained by mixing solutions of alkali aluminate and alkali silicate, with the addition of sodium sulphate or chloride and heating the mixture to the boiling point. The bulky precipitate is separated, washed, and dried or calcined. In an example, the aluminate solution is obtained by adding caustic-soda solution to a solution of an aluminium salt such as aluminium chloride until the precipitate first formed redissolves. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states that other soluble alkali salts such as sodium phosphate may be used instead of sodium chloride or sulphate; and that an excess of alkali should be avoided, the sodium aluminate being preferably prepared by adding the caustic soda solution gradually, preferably drop by drop, until nearly but not quite all the precipitated alumina has dissolved. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
