Abstract
4698. Doepker, J., and Burger, F. W. Feb. 24. No Patent granted (Scaling fee not paid). Differential or balance gearing; clutches, ratchet.-Relates to an arrangement of friction ratchet clutches, employed as a differential or balance gear in motor-vehicles &c. The driving- disk e, Figs. 1 and 3, carries on each side a cam g engaging between friction segments C, C<3>. Normally the cams press the segments into driving engagement with the driven drums A. In the event of one of the drums overrunning, as in turning a corner, the clutch segments on that side move relatively to the cam and are disengaged from the drum, pins E passing through slots f in the disk e and engaging recesses j in the segments C, C<3>, serving to keep the segments in the disengaged position until the disk e again takes up the drive. Lubricating-holes are formed in the sides of a casing A<3>.
