[Addition to 10,429/12.] Uppers, machinesfor.-The angular relationship between the surface of the work-supporting die and the path of the movement of the male toe-forming member of the machine described in the parent Specification is now adapted to be adjusted in order to vary the prominence of the toe. The worksupport D having a central aperture D<3> is recessed to take interchangeable female dies D' held in place by a screw D<4>. The female dies are preferably provided with a pad of rubber D<5> at the place where the upper is clamped adjacent to the toe-cap seam. The support D is supported at its rear end by pivots D<7> resting in arms A<3> rising from the frame of the machine. The support may be turned about these pivots and supported in its adjusted position by a screw A<4>, the head of which forms a rest for the front part of the support D. A screw A<6> locks the screw A<4> in its adjusted position. To enable the clamping-member C<2> to adjust itself to the varying inclinations of the support, the spring C' is arranged to bear on a washer C<6>, the under surface of which is dome-shaped and is adapted to engage a correspondingly-shaped socket in the plate C. The plate C is fitted loosely on the spindle B<5>. A toothed block C<3>, to co-operate with the rubber pad D<5>, is secured to the front of the clamping plate C' by screws. The upper is firmly gripped between the block and the pad, with the result that the leather needed to form the bulge of the toe is dragged from between the clamping plate and the female die at the front end of the toe. The clamping plate C may be pivoted in order that its inclination may be adjusted to agree with that of the work-support.
