Abstract
3504. Anderson, F. A. Feb. 11. Lixiviating. - Apparatus for preparing lime- .water for purifying water comprises an outer vessel a, an inner perforated receptacle b<1>, and a common stirring-shaft d with blades in both vessels. The lime is slaked in the receptacle b<1> and water is then supplied to the vessel a and the stirrer operated. The milk of lime formed is passed through a cock b into a tray f and thence down a wide tube g into the saturator e. Part of the water to be treated is passed from a distributor i<1>, which is preferably of the revoluble type described in Specification 8354/00, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], to a funnel h<1> and down a pipe h to the bottom of the conical part e<1> of the saturator. In order to cause less agitation of the lime, this supply may be divided by means of a T-pipe which delivers part to the tray f and pipe g. The water becomes saturated as it passes upwards through the lime and leaves by the spout e<2> as a clear solution.
