Abstract

3251. Justice, P. M., [Burt Co., F. N.]. April 11, 1912. Coating - machines. - Machines for feeding boxes and glueing the inner walls thereof, applicable to box-making machines of the type described in Specification 8622/12. The boxes are placed in an inverted position on ledges 272, Fig. 1, of members 271 adjustably secured to angle-irons 270, and are fed forwards by an endless belt, overhanging flanges 287 and rollers 283 keeping them in contact with the belt. The foremost box is periodically removed and fed along ledges in rails 290 into position for glueing by a picker 334, Fig. 5, on a rod 332 pivoted to a reciprocating crosshead. During the return movement of the picker, it is lifted out of contact with the following box by the contact of an arm 333 with a spring-controlled switchpiece 336. A line of glue is applied around the inside of the box by four plates 300, Fig. 12, pivoted to a plate 297 reciprocated on a sleeve 293 in a glue tank by connexions from a cam 307. The plates are forced outwards to contact with the box walls by screws 302 engaging a flared portion 294 of the sleeve. The glueing- device may be put out of action by moving a latch 319, which normally locks the pivoted part 316, 317 of the rock lever 309.
