3113. Marks, E. C. R., [Badische Maschinenfabrik & Eisengiesserei vorm. G. Sebold und Sebold & Neff]. Feb. 6. Sand-blast; rumbles.-In sand-blast apparatus wherein a charge of castings or the like 3 is treated within a rotatable drum 2, the drum is revolved intermittently in short steps and in jerks by means of ratchet gearing. The drum is provided with ratchet teeth 8 to engage one or more pawls 9, which are reciprocated by eccentrics 10, so that the drum is revolved only through the length of one tooth for each turn of the eccentric. The sand is supplied to the blast nozzles 7 from a receptacle 6, and, falling with the dirt through the perforations of the drum. it is returned by an elevator 4 and shoot 5 to the top of the scouring-drum where, after sifting if necessary, it is re-introduced into the receptacle 6.
