Abstract

2223. Spencer, A. Jan. 27. Stopping trains from carriages. - Means on each vehicle for opening the brake pipe to atmosphere, and for actuating a disk showing on which coach the valve has been opened, include a rotatable shaft 18 rocked by a cord attached to an arm 19 and passing through the compartments of the vehicle. The shaft 18 has another arm 17 passing through the stem of a spring-pressed valve which normally closes the brake pipe but which is opened when the shaft is rocked, and is held open by a stepped latching-member 23, slidable along but rotatable with the shaft, which is pressed by a spring 25 into engagement with a correspondingly stepped bearing 22. The shaft 18 also carries a pulley 27 over which passes a. rope which rocks the shaft 30 to bring the disk 32 into view when the valve is opened. A similar disk on the other side of the vehicle is operated by ropes passing over guide-pulleys to another shaft.
