Abstract

15,279. Rendell, A. W. June 25. Track apparatus for stopping trains.-In a device for actuating fluid-pressure brakes, in which tripping-devices on the track are adapted to co-operate with mechanism on the train, a valve 36 controlling the opening of the trainpipe 3 to the atmosphere at 40 is opened when the valve 14 is moved from its seat to vent the pipe 33 through a port 34. The valve 14 is held closed by a spring 17 and is opened by a spring-actuated striker 13 normally held inoperative by a detent 25, which is rocked clear of the striker when the lever 12 engages the track-trip 9. The lever 12 is formed of resilient material with a metal core 10. Bowdenwire transmission 21, 22 is employed for resetting the apparatus, and in a modification, the wire operates through a spring-pressed rocking lever, which may be freed from the striker when this is set. The controlling-lever of the Bowden-wire mechanism is preferably enclosed in a box &c., to which access may only be obtained through a second train attendant; or counting-mechanism may be employed to register each resetting. The stem 43 of the valve 36 may be fitted with a spring-pressed contact-maker 46 for closing a circuit comprising an electrically-operated emergency brake valve.
