Abstract
29,902. Karabacek, Hans, Ritter von. Dec. 28. Forging nails; forging-dies.-Nails having multiple shanks are manufactured continuously from wire, which is slit at intervals to form the shanks. Wire of any suitable crosssection may be used and, if of round or quadrangular section, is flattened at intervals, as shown in Fig. 4, or throughout its entire length. These flattened portions are slit by stamping as at 2, Fig. 7, and are then supported inside the slit by dies 4, 5, Figs. 10 and 11, while the unslit portion above is hammered into a head. The number of slits corresponds to the number of shanks required.
