Abstract
26,951. Smith, M., and Taylor, Garnett, Evans, & Co. Nov. 23. Bronzing; gripper mechanism.-In a bronzing machine of the kind in which the sheets to be bronzed are carried by a flat belt over a bed above which the applying and polishing rollers are arranged, the belt is fitted with grippers in the form of thin steel or other spring plates secured by their leading edges to the outer surface of the belt in such a manner that their rear edges press against the belt and securely hold the sheets while passing through the machine, the belt being passed over pulleys or curved surfaces at the sheet receiving and delivery positions, and thereby causing the rear ends of the springs to move away from the belts automatically to allow the sheets to be taken or delivered. As shown, grippers H in the form of springs are secured by rivets &c. K and staples K' to a belt C, which, when passed over a pulley D, Fig. 4, causes the rear ends of the grippers H to be above the belt so that sheets mav be fed to the belt in a known manner. The grippers H automatically close on the sheet when they leave the pulley D, and metal protecting-plates may be secured to the belt opposite to the free ends of the grippers. The sheets are stripped from the band as it passes over another pulley after the bronzing has taken place. The belt is provided with perforations C<2> which engage driving teeth, and also permit the passage of air through them.
