Non-metallic elastic bodies and cores; tread surfaces.-A solid rubber or like tyre in which is embedded an endless articulated band Z, as described in Specification 19,964/09, is provided with layers or strips of metal fabric A arranged end-on to the tread, and may have in addition one or more layers of metal fabric B arranged flatwise in or on the base. The metal fabric may be open-meshed woven fabric, or may comprise intercoiled helices, such as described in Specifications 4870/10 and 5381/11. The end-on layers or strips may be circumferential, transverse, or oblique; they may extend from the tread to, or near, the base of the tyre, and some strips, such as those at the sides' of the tyre, may extend further towards'the base thar. others. The end-on fabric may also be arranged in rolls having the form of round or square studs or masses. The metal fabric may be filled or otherwise treated with rubber or the like before it is built into the tyre, and the completed tyre is vulcanized.
