Cutting - appliances. -A rubber-tapping tool for paring the sides of a channel without injury to the bottom comprises a blade a having formed therein two or more slots e extending to one edge thereof, the edges of the tongue-like portion between the slots being bent up, or equivalently treated, to form cutting-edges. The tool may comprise two such blades parallel to each other joined by distance-pieces d which serve as a guard to the cambium or other material at the bottom of the groove. In a modification, a single blade a is formed with four slots e, Fig. 5, the edges of which are so bent or milled as to form a pair of opposite cutting-edges on each side of the blade. The ends a<1> of the blade project beyond the remainder of the tool and serve as guards for the cambium &c. Each tool may be used for paring either side of the channel, in either direction, without change of position.
