Abstract

24,960. Smith, C. Oct. 31. Automatic alarm signals.-In apparatus for periodically testing a battery used in a fire alarm or other circuit, a clock closes the battery circuit through an electro-magnet, which controls a mechanically-operated signal indicating when the current given by the battery is below normal. In the arrangement shown, a clockdriven disk 1 has a contact 2 engaging with two contacts 4 to close the circuit of the battery through an electro-magnet 10. The disk is also formed with a cam surface 3 engaging with a roller on the armature 11 of the electro-magnet. If the current is normal, the armature is held up when the gap 18 in the cam surface reaches the roller, but if below normal, the roller falls into the gap, and a lug 14 on the armature releases a weight or spring to operate a visible or audible signal. Specification 21,059/06, [Class 40, Electric telegraphs &c.], is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the electro-magnet may control an auxiliary electric signalling-circuit. In this case the clock-driven disk has two contacts engaging with two separate pairs of spring contacts to close first the battery circuit and then the signalling-circuit. If the current is normal, the electro-magnet opens the signalling-circuit, but if below normal the signalling-circuit is closed by the disk contact, and a bell is sounded or a visible signal is operated.
