Abstract
21,019. Oddy, W. D., and Richmond & Sons, H. Sept. 16. Moulding-machines of the intermittently-rotating-table type have special sand supplying and compressing, pattern carrying, and table-actuating means. Flasks are rammed, to form part of a multiple mould, with counterpart impressions on the opposite faces. Pattern-plates e, Fig. 2, are supported on slides by rollers f and a cam-rack g. An empty flask j is placed in position over an opening d of the table at position I, Fig. 1. The table is intermittently rotated by a crown-ring 1 driven by a main pinion and carrying a crown-ring 5 with alternate toothed and plain portions, in driving relation with a pinion 6 on a countershaft geared to a second shaft bevel geared to the table. The track g raises the platen plate level with the table, and sand is supplied from a circular or annular container situated above the who'e machine by a shoot terminating in a reciprocating grid n. In a modification, arms or scrapers carried by the table pass through a slot in the bottom of the shoot. The sand is compressed either by a roller s which may be weighted or spring-pressed or by a row of stampers or by a press plate which may be roughly shaped to correspond to the pattern plate. Further sand is supplied at III to be rammed at D by a press head sliding in guides 18 and connected by rods 17 to crank-disks driven from the teeth 5 during the period of rest of the table. In a modification, hydraulic presses controlled by tappets on the wheel 5 are employed. Further sand is supplied at IV, to fill the flask, is levelled by a roller or scraper v and is finally rammed by a press at A similar to the press at D but carrying the pattern plate for the other mould part. Fig. 5 shows a flask thus rammed, the dotted lines indicating the several stages of sand filling and compression. The number of stages may be increased, and by employing a larger table a flask may be moulded in a half or other fraction of a revolution. After leaving the press at A, the track g allows the pattern plate to sink. The finished mould is removed during this portion of the cycle. During the action of the presses, the pattern plates are supported solidly at h, i. Patterns.-The pattern plate is cleaned, while lowered, by a brush w driven by a pinion y and gear segments x on the table.
