Abstract
20,991. Boult, A. J., [Compagnie pour la Fabrication des Compteurs et Materiel d'Uzines Ó Gaz.]. Sept. 14. Gas, supplying by meter.-The planet-wheels 3, Fig. 7, of an epicyclic train of bevel-wheels are carried by a drum 11, which is rotated in reverse directions. to open and close the valve, by the rotation of the bevel-wheels by the coin and meter mechanisms respectively. A sliding valve 16 is operated by a bell-crank lever 17 cooperating with a cam disk on the drum 11, the arms of the lever being provided with shaped portions 29, 32 adapted to bear on a circular portion 31 of the cam when the valve is open, and the cam being provided with a projection 15 to force the part 29 of the lever into a notch 30 and close the valve at the conclusion of the supply. The number of coins standing to the consumer's credit is indicated by the graduated rim 13 of the drum 11, which may be viewed through an opening 14 in the front plate. When the maximum number of coins has been inserted, a stop 19 on the drum 11 operates a shutter 20 to close the coin-slot. The prepayment mechanism is mounted in a single frame hinged at 26<a>, Fig. 1, so that it may be readily turned up to expose the parts, and secured in position by means of a pin 27. Coin action, mechanical-connexion and multiple-coin.-The coin projecting from a drum 5 rotated by an external handle first withdraws a locking-pawl, 7, Fig. 4, or a locking-pin 13<a> on a sliding detent 13<1>, Figs. 13 and 15, from engagement with a wheel 4, and then rotates the wheel through the space of one tooth. To enable the apparatus to be set to take a coin of different size, the coin-drum is arranged to rotate in two half-bearings, one of which is carried by the frame of the apparatus and the other by a removable plate 7', Figs. 13 and 15, in which is formed the insertion slot 8'. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 15, the plate 7<1> is provided with a projection 9', which is adapted to support a small coin so as to enable it to perform the same functions as a large coin in the arrangement shown in Fig. 13. Fraud, preventing.-A two-armed spring 23, Fig. 4, prevents a return movement of the drum after the projecting coin has engaged the pawl 7. Fraudulent operation of the pawl 7 by means of a wire inserted through the coinslot is prevented by an arm 24, which is secured to the pawl by a spring and is held against a fixed stop 34 by a projection 28 on the coin-drum when the drum is in position to receive a coin. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 13 and 15, a projection 15' on the coin-drum withdraws a locking-lever 12<1> from engagement with a notch 18<1> in the detent 13<1> and then engages a cutaway part of the drum, thereby preventing reverse movement of the drum before the coin has been discharged. 'The locking-lever and detent are connected by a spring 14<1>. Registering.-A register mounted at one side of the coin mechanism, so that it can be readily zeroized, serves to record the number of coins inserted and is actuated from the coin-driven wheel 4 through gearing 26, 25, Fig. 4.
