Abstract

20,123. Baines, J. S. Sept. 4. String holders. - A string holder adapted for advertising purposes comprises a heavy base 3, in which are revolubly mounted a tube 9 carrying the string ball or drum 1 and a stalk supporting a cylindrical casing 4 for carrying detachable advertisement panels &c. The tube and the stalk are geared together by pinions, so that, when the string is drawn off through a guide 17 and an opening 18 in the base, the casing 4 is slowly revolved. A band or other friction brake may engage the tube 9 to prevent overrunning. In a modified form, the rotation of the tube 9 drives the casing through friction disks and a friction race on the inside of the casing.
