Abstract
19,527. Atkinson, H. Aug. 26. Crowbars; prinzing-tools.-Relates to car-movers of the type comprising a shoe 1 adapted to be placed on a rail immediately to the rear of the wheels of a vehicle and having a transverselydisposed knife-edge 6 to bite into the rail, an operating-lever 2 pivoted at 3 to lugs on the upper part of the shoe, and a blade - spring' adapted to tilt the shoe about its front edge and disengage the knife-edge from the rail during the inoperative stroke of the lever. The blade-spring 7 is fixed to the rear half of the shoe and projects beyond its rear end, so that it cannot become ineffective through the accumulation of caked mud between itself and the shoe. Instead of a single knife-edge, two may be employed, adapted to bite into the sides of the head of the rail and removably secured by any suitable means on the inner faces of the lugs at the rear end of the shoe. In the form shown in Fig. 15, these are mounted in slots 9 in the lugs 8 and retained therein by screws 10. For use with tramcars or vehicles running in grooved rails, the shoe is provided with one or more lugs 11, as shown in Fig. 18, adapted to enter the groove in the rail.
