Abstract

[Cognate Application, 20,231/12.] Balancing.-In a device for increasing the stability of an aeroplane comprising a depending rod having a weight attached to its lower end the rod is formed in two parts c, c<2> connected together by a chain c<1> or other universal joint and means are provided, comprising for example, an adjustable sleeve b<1>, for rigidly connecting the two parts together. The part c is secured to the frame a of the machine. The sleeve b<1> is raised vertically by the aviator so that the rod c<2> may swing freely in any direction to prevent injury thereto when the machine lands. In another form, the sleeve d<3>, Fig. 4, is provided with a bell-shaped end f for engaging the upper end of the part e' which carries the stabilizing- mass e<2> at its lower end.
