Abstract

D a v i t s ; transporting boats across ship's deck; boat raising and lowering gear.-Sets of boats are mounted on t r o l l i e s mounted on a double line of rails 1, 2 sunk on the deck within the zone of action of a single - fall davit crane 8. The rails are connected up to the rails on which an adjacent set of boats are operated. The boats are hauled up in turn to the crane by a rope 17 wound round the drum ends 13, and the trollies are locked in position by a hinged plate taking on the trolly axle. The boats are lowered by a single wire fall 18 connected to the boat by a detachable hook 19 which engages a pair of end diagonal ties 20, Fig. 5, and an eye rod provided with a stretching-screw. The fall is guided by brackets 25 hinged at 26 to the ship's side and provided with a grooved roller 27 for the fall. The gunwales of the boat are provided with rollers 29 for diminishing friction with the ship's side. In a modification, the boat suspension gear is attached to straps passing diagonally beneath the boat.
