Abstract
19,050. Augezd, A. Odkolek, Baron. Aug. 21, 1911, [Convention date]. Parachutes.-A parachute, applicable to a fireescape as well as for aeronauts, is adapted to be projected clear of its mounting and also to be expanded by gunpowder charges or by compressed air. The projection of the parachute is effected by arranging the stem 20 thereof to slide in a tube 1 fixed to the aeroplane, or near the window of a building &c., and containing at 3 a charge of gunpowder which can be fired by a percussion cap and spring- actuated striker 6 controlled by a cord 10. To effect the unfolding of the parachute, a number of the cords 24 which radiate from the top plate 21 and to which the fabric of the parachute is attached are fastened at their lower ends to plugs 25 adapted to be ejected from tubes 12 radiating from a boss 11 free to slide on a tube 1. The charges 13 in the tube 12 are fired bv a striker 18 controlled by a cord 19 connected to the fixed base 2 of the device so that it becomes tightened by the upward travel of the boss 11. The length of the cord 19 is so arranged that the unfolding of the parachute is only effected after it has travelled upwards far enough to bring it clear of the machine &c. The carrying cords (not shown) of the parachute may be attached to the waistbelt of the pilot. When compressed gas is used, a container thereof is connected by pipes having snitably-disposed valves to the chamber 3.
