[Cognate Application, 29,490/12.] Printing processes.-Relates to a method of printing bank-notes and the like to prevent their fraudulent reproduction, and consists in making the ground-work of the note of such a character that it cannot he reproduced photographically. The face of the paper or fabric of which the note is made is treated with gold, silver, plumbago, or other highly reflecting substance to form an irregular reflecting and diffusing surface. The irregularity of the reflecting surface may be produced by utilizing a base with an irregular mesh, by producing a stippled effect, or by irregularly burnishing the surface. The surface can be arranged also to transmit light irregularly to prevent copying by contact-printing.
