Fastening sheets together by punching.-In apparatus for fastening sheets of paper together by stamping down therefrom a tongue of paper and threading it up through a slit made at the same operation, these operations are effected by the continued movement of a rotating punch, which may be spring-controlled and plunger-operated. A knife of curved crosssection is employed for forming the slit. The tongue is stamped out by the portion b<6> of a punching-disk B, which is resiliently mounted on a spindle b and adapted to be depressed by its engagement b<4>, d<1> with a plunger D, to which is detachably connected the slitting-knife C of curved cross-section. A spring-depressed presser-sleeve E serves to clamp the papers on to a matrix F during the stamping operation, and is raised against the action of springs e<3> by a pin d on the plunger. In operation, the punch b<6> cuts out the tongue gradually from its tip to its base and bends it downwards and into the slot above the cutting portion of the knife C, which serves to thread the tongue through the slit on the release of the plunger. A stop a<3> by engagement with a recess in the disk B limits the movement of the disk in either direction.
