Abstract
15,443. Staley, J. F., and Jackson, C. F. July 2. Overwinding, preventing; emergency power cut-off gear.-A trip lever K, adapted to release a weighted lever K<2> connected to the throttle and brake of the winding-engine, is actuated directly by a stop D<2> or E<2> if the engine is started in the wrong direction, and indirectly by a floating lever F in the event of overwinding or excessive speed. The nuts A<2>, B<2> travelling along rotating screw shafts A are provided with rollers D adapted to engage, towards the end of a wind, with the upwardly curved end of a floating lever F, which may be either duplicated or forked. The lever is pivoted centrally to the sleeve N of a governor O<2>, and the opposite end carries an adjustable tappet for engaging an arm J and releasing the trip lever K, causing the throttle to be closed and the brake applied. In this way, the tripping is jointly dependent on the position and on the speed of the cages. If the speed is very high, the lever F is raised until a pin R engages a fixed bracket P, and any further increase releases the trip gear, although the nuts A<2>, B<2> may not have reached the upturned end F<2>. Each nut carries a stop D<2>. E<2> adapted to engage an arm M and release the trip gear if the cages pass beyond their stopping-places on account of overwinding or starting in the wrong direction.
