Abstract

14,630. Grimsdale, W. H., and Grimsdale's Patents, Ltd. June 22. Actions; expression-controlling; tracker-bars. -Relates to expression-controlling means of the kind described in Specification 4942/08, in which tune-sheet apertures of varying widths admit air to dash-pots or bellows connected to the note-operating pneumatics. According to the present invention, the dash-pots or bellows are normally controlled through valves from the tracker-bar. Means are provided for admitting air to the dash-pots or bellows through manuallyoperated valves. A tune-sheet aperture registers first with the duct f and subsequently with the duct b to operate the primary and secondary valves c, d in the usual way. The note-operating pneumatic e therefore collapses. If the amount of air admitted to the duct f is sufficient, the bellows g expands to open the valve h and a loud note is struck. If the valve h is not opened, the pressure in the expanding bellows l falls and a soft note is struck, air being sucked into the channel k through the bleed-hole q. The size of the bleedhole q may be adjustable. The loudness of the note sounded is determined by the lift of the valve h and therefore by the width of the tunesheet aperture. A valve m may be provided to release the air in the bellows l on the upward stroke. To accentuate a note manually, a valve may be provided to admit air to the bellows l. Alternatively, air may be admitted to the tracker-pipe in connexion with the duct f by opening the rocking valve p controlling the duct o. The valve p may control one or several notes.
