Projectile fuses.-Relates to keys and machines for setting time fuses, and consists in adding thereto a ring for setting the rotary head of the combined time and percussion fuse described in Specification 5365/11, this head being intended to occupy one of three positions to connect the time part of the fuse to a shrapnel charge, or a high explosive charge or to shut off the time action, and at the same time to set the percussion part of the fuse to act with or without delay. The setting-key, Fig. 2, has three rings C, D, E within a casing B, B' ; the ring C is normally held in a fixed position in the casing by a tooth b<3> on a spring knob b<4> and has a tooth c<1> for engagement with the usual notch in the fuse body a<1>; the ring D has a spring pawl d' for engagement with the notch in the time ring a<2>, and is set by a worm F; the ring E has a spring pawl e<1> for engagement with a notch in the rotary head a<3> and is secured to a cap E<2> provided with a spring knob e<3>, c<6> for engagement with any one of three holes in the casing B, corresponding to the three desired positions of the head. In operation, the key is placed on the fuse so that the tooth c<1> fits into the notch in the fuse body a<1>, the knob b<4> is then pressed in and the key rotated through a complete revolution, causing the knob b<4> to snap out and lock the key; during this operation, the ring C remains at rest while the rings D, E pick up their respective notches in the ring a<2> and head a<3> and bring them round to the required position. The Specification also describes the application of the invention to a setting-machine of the kind described in Specifications 3227/08 and 9448,08.
