Abstract

12,619. Newton, P. A., [Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.]. May 28. Quinizarin is obtained by condensing phthalic anhydride with p-chlorphenol or its sulphonic acids by means of concentrated or fuming sulphonic acid containing boric acid; according to examples, p-chlorphenol and its mono- and di-sulphonic acids are used. Quinizarin sulphuric boric ester is obtained as an intermediate product when p-chlorphenol disulphonic acid is used. p-Chlorphenol disulphonic acid is obtained by sulphonating p-chlorphenol with fuming sulphuric acid.
