Controlling-apparatus, arrangements of hand and foot gear in conjunction with; interlocking and guarding against wrong movements and the like.-In motor-vehicles in which the changespeed gear is carried on the rear axle, the controlling-means for the gear are so arranged that they are not affected by the movements of the gear relatively to the operating lever on the body of the vehicle. The change-speed gear 2 is driven bv a shaft 3 extending through the torque rod 1 which is pivoted at X. The gear is controlled by two rods 4, 5, sliding concentrically within the driving shaft 3 and operated by forks 14 through collars 8 and pins 6 which slide in slots in the shaft. The forks are carried by sliding rods 16 connected at 17<11> by links 17 to arms 18, 18<1>, loose on a transverse shaft 19. These arms are connected to or formed with toothed bosses 28, 31, either of which can be engaged to operate the corresponding rods 4, 5, by a sleeve 26 which carries a hand lever 24 working in the usual gate 25. A brake lever 22 is keyed to the shaft 19. The rods 4, 5 may be arranged externally to the shaft 3.
