Wind and like guards.-In a screen consisting of a sheet 1 of celluloid or the like adapted to be unwound from a spring-actuated roller 2 on the dashboard &c. by means of a frame 4<a> sliding in sockets 3<b>, a sheet of cloth 11 is arranged to be wound on to the roller 2 from a second spring-actuated roller 12 simultaneously with the winding on of the screen 1 in order to prevent abrasion of the surface ofthe screen by contact of its convolutions. The rollers are mounted at the rear of a board a secured to the dashboard, and are protected at the rear by a casing 14. To keep the screen clean and to prevent access of water, it passes between two strips of felt 16, 17. The frame 4a is retained in adjusted position by a bolt 6 at each side passing through the socket 3<b> and urged by a spring 7 to engage holes in the lugs 4 of the frame. The bolts are withdrawn by fingerpieces 6<a> at the centre, and to hold them in this position the finger-pieces are adapted to be automatically engaged by lugs d on a yielding metal strip b secured at its upper end only to the board a. A pin 8 passing through a fixed plate 3<a> locks the roller against rotation by entering holes in the end face thereof, and is connected by lever 8<a> pivoted at 8<b> for simultaneous actuation with the bolt 6, which, however, can be engaged with the frame 4 even when the pin 8 does not register with a hole in the roller. For the attachment of the upper edge of the screen 1 to the sliding frame 4, 4<a>, it has a metal bead 5 through which pass bolts 5<b> screwing into sockets 5<c>.
