Abstract

12,007. Chandler, S., and Waller, B. B. May 21. Impurities, separating from gases.-Apparatus for removing tar and other impurities from gases consists of a vessel containing concentric cylindrical perforated screens, the perforations of which decrease in size as the exit for the gases is approached. T h e gas enters by a pipe a, passes to a central screen c, and after passing through perforations in the lower part of this screen strikes against and passes through p e rforations at the top of a screen d and so on through screens e, f, g, travelling in a zigzag manner to the outlet h. When treating gas sufficiently cool, all the lower sets of perforations may be submerged in liquor, the gas being caused to bubble through such liquor. When the gas treated is one depositing a thin tar, a greater number of the holes is submerged than when a thick tar is being removed.
