Abstract

11,758. Halle, W. Nov. 13, 1911, [Convention date]. Nicotine is extracted from tobacco residues. after liberation of the free base by an alkali, by means of a solvent having a low boiling- point. The solvent is then evaporated, and the nicotine obtained by distillation under reduced pressure in an atmosphere of an indifferent gas such as hydrogen. Tobacco juice mixed to a solid mass with tobacco residues and waterabsorbing substances such as dry tobacco dust, gypsum, or dry pumice powder, may be treated in a like manner.
