11,753. Wolk, E. May 17. Renewable calks; shoeing-appliances.-A detachable toe for horseshoes comprises members a, b, Fig. 2, and shanks c with upturned lugs d. The toe is inserted in a recess e, Fig. 3, in the shoe and is secured by means of a wedge g, which is driven into the tapering space between the lugs d so as to force them apart at the top and cause them to fit tightly in a downwardly converging recess f in the shoe. A hook-shaped tool i may be used to remove the wedge by engaging a notch h. The toe may then be forced off by a chisel or pointed tool inserted in the recess k.
