Abstract

11,597. Eckmann, S. May 15. Equalizing load on generator.-In a system of supply to a number of direct-current motors 9, 10, 11 some or all of which have fly-wheels 18, 19 or in which the fly-wheel effect is considerable, the strength of the field-magnet excitation of such motors is varied in the same sense as the variation in the total load on the system, so that the load taken by these motors 9, 10 varies in an inverse sense, whereby all the fly-wheel energy is made available for equalizing the load on the generator. An extra field winding 23, 24 carrying the whole or part of the total load current on the mains 1, 2 is used in one form; and in another, resistance in series with the shunt field 13, 14 of each motor is varied in steps 25, 26, 27 by relays 31, 32, 33 responsive to different values of the total load . current of the system.
