Abstract

11,174. Harker, W., and Allcock, A. T. May 10. Bore-hole apparatus.-In deep-boring rock drills of the kind in which the feed-nut of the mechanical screw-feed is supported by a fluidsupported piston arranged in conjunction with a pressure recorder for ascertaining the weight of the drill rods, means are provided for the supply and discharge of fluid to and from the piston cylinder so that the feed may be accelerated or retarded, and the pressure on the drill crown adjusted as desired. The feed-nut f is supported on a piston k connected by a pipe q<1> with a pressure-recorder n and a pump, and by a discharge pipe with a reservoir, valves being provided to control the supply and discharge. A relief valve, which may be regulated according to the weight of the drill rods, is arranged between the pump and the cylinder. The mechanical feed may be obtained as described in Specification 22,339/02. The feed-nut f and the spur-wheel f<1> by which it is driven, instead of being formed in one, may be connected together by a key and feather so as to allow a greater range of movement for the piston and feed-nut without disengaging the spur-wheel f<1> from its driving-wheel.
