Mops &c.-A substitute for cotton waste for cleaning machine parts is made by winding one or more looselyspun threads a on a rod b, passing one end (or multiple end) between the coils and the rod, and, after sliding the coils from the rod, tieing this end to itself around one end of the coils, the other end being also knotted to this end. Or a separate thread or threads c may be used to tie the coils together, the two ends of the thread or threads a being tied. The coils are then evenly distributed. The device has no loose ends and is easily opened out.
