Abstract
9609. Langbein - Pfanhauserwerke Akt.-Ges. April 25, 1911, [Convention date]. Metals, pickling.-Iron wire, strip, sheet, netting, chain, or the like is prepared for galvanizing or plating by passing it rapidly and continuously through a neutral or alkaline liquid in which it forms an anode for a current of high density, for example 30-40 amperes per square decimetre. The distance between the electrodes may be 6-8 centimetres and the speed of travel through the bath 4-15 metres per minute. The liquid may be a strong solution of sodium chlorate or sulphate, and may be kept at a temperature between 30‹ and 70‹ C. ; it can be purified by filtration or decantation, no soluble substances being produced.
