Wheels, facilitating detachment of.-The hub 1 of the road wheel of a velocipede or the like is mounted on independent bearings 1<b> co-axial with the sprocket or belt wheel 5, which is also carried on independent bearings 6, the hub and the sprocket-wheel being connected by a flexible coupling 1<a> which can be disconnected by a movement in an axial direction on removal of a tubular nipple or sleeve 10. The axle 4 of the sprocket-wheel and a tubular stud 8 are normally fixed, as by clamping-nuts 7, 9, to the frame members 3, so that they remain in alinement when the central bolt 11 has been withdrawn and the wheel removed. The flexible coupling of the road and sprocket wheels is effected by the interengagement of axiallyextending teeth in such manner as to permit of a small freedom of movement between the wheels to prevent any binding action on the bearings. To facilitate the replacement of the nipple 10, it is connected to, or carried from, a convenient part, for example an arm 14 upon the stud 8, so that the nipple may be moved back into accurate position when the hub has been put back into place. The nipple may, however, be formed in one piece with the stud 8, in which case the stud would itself be removed from the frame to permit of the axial movement of the road wheel, and the clamping- nut 9 may be dispensed with. The wheel with its hub may be removed from its position as a driving-wheel and be placed in another part of the frame, for example the front forks of a bicycle.
